The Welsh Composites Centre has been awarded a grant of over £650k from the A4B programme of the Welsh Assembly Government to act as a dedicated Knowledge Transfer Centre (KTC) in the area of composites for the next three years.

The aim of the Centre will be to build upon the previous 18 months work as a funded Technology Transfer Network. The Centre is physically located within the School of Engineering in Swansea University but linked into an established network of experts and facilities across Wales. The focus of the centre will be to enable rapid and effective transfer of best practice in composites technology by working with Companies, especially SME’s across Wales. This will make considerable use of web-based tools as well as more conventional seminars, workshops and demonstrations.

In addition, the Centre will be working with Welsh Companies on a number of specific research and development projects in three main areas: Advanced Particulate Composites for High Technology Application, Lifetime Reliable Composites for Sport Applications & Performance and Damage Prediction, Assessment & Repair of Structural Composites. Although a number of projects have already been identified, the Centre’s staff are keen to discuss further opportunities with interested companies.
