Victoria and the Canadian province of Manitoba will collaborate on a new research projects in the field of composite fibres.
“Both Manitoba and Victoria share similar environmental conditions and we are both large agricultural states and major exporters of food and fibre products,” Victoria Innovation Minister Gavin Jennings said. “Like Victoria, Manitoba also recognises the immense contribution biotechnology makes to our quality of life, particularly in healthcare.”
The first project is a collaboration between Manitoba’s Composites Innovation Centre and the Victorian-based CSIRO Textile and Fibre Technology and the CRC for Advanced Composite Structures.
“It will study opportunities for use of natural fibres in composites for building materials, furniture, boats, surfboards and semi-durable packaging such as crates and pallets,” Mr Jennings said.
“The Manitoba and Victorian Governments are each providing $50,000 for this project which is expected to lead to a larger R&D project with industry partners and Federal Government involvement.”
