JEC is organising three Forums – Aerospace, Automotive and Marine – as part of the JEC Composites Show 2004 on March 30-31 & April 1.

Each Forum is designed to encourage the transfer of knowledge between the sectors concerned and the different players in the composite market. Each of these forums will take a look at international trends in each of the three sectors and review the prospects and opportunities associated with composites.

On Tuesday March 30, from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., the Automotive Forum will open with a study on the use of composites in the car sector. Specialists from Daimler Chrysler will then elaborate on their global vision of the role of composites in their business lines. Case studies presented by PSA, Ford, Rover MG, Aston Martin, TVR and Renault will follow.

On Wednesday March 31, from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., five major players in the aeronautical sector will gather for the first presentation of the Aerospace Forum: Airbus, Boeing, Dassault Aviation, Lufthansa and Embraer do Brazil. Airbus will introduce the A380 concept and Boeing will present the 7E7 programme. Next up, Dassault Aviation will give an idea of its prospects for composite applications. Lufthansa will then share its expectations with respect to the service life of composite structures, and Embraer do Brazil will respond. Parts from major aircraft manufacturers will be on display as part of a unique exhibition organised during the JEC COMPOSITES SHOW (See attached list of parts). The forum was set up by JEC’s teams, in co-operation with the SAMPE (Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering).

On Thursday April 1, from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., the Marine Forum will focus on technology transfers, from cutting-edge applications (army boats, racing boats, etc.) to commercial applications. Several lecturers including Trimaran Groupama, Onuk, Numarine, Kockums and Seaway, will talk about their recent applications. During the Forum, a technical manager from the French Marine Industry Federation (FIN) will take a look at the ISO/CEN 12215 European standard about composite applications in the marine industry.
