Reichhold announced a price increase today of $ .03 per pound on all unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) products, effective for North American orders shipped on or after August 1, 2000. This increase is in addition to the $ .03 per pound increase announced in May which took effect June 5. “The raw materials situation resin suppliers are experiencing is without precedence,” says Alex Car, vice president of sales for Reichhold’s composites resin business in North America. “This industry saw extreme raw materials pricing pressures in 1994, but what we’ve absorbed in 2000 is without parallel. “Our raw material costs have skyrocketed this year, with virtually no relief,” Car continues. “Crude oil costs have risen to all-time highs (over $ 30 per barrel) as OPEC member nations have been much more disciplined than in the past several years, keeping production rates down, and driving costs up.
