A team of undergraduate students at the University of Hawaii, Manoa, are redesigning the Unit Load Device (ULD) cargo containers that are currently used in the aviation industry.
They say their engineering team, Unique Lite Design, is on track to become the first university design team to develop an alternative to the cargo containers.
ULD’s research and design includes the use of composite materials, is 44% lighter and is designed to reduce fossil fuel consumption, reduce maintenance costs, reduce CO2 emissions, reduce maintenance costs, and increase container life span. The students are seeking support and sponsors for their senior design project. The team believes they have the chance to transform aviation.
