Composites UK, the trade association for the composites industry, held their first annual Awards Dinner on the 5th May 2010 at The Studio in Birmingham as part of their two day annual conference.
Nominations were entered by companies across the UK and were judged by the Composites UK Board of Directors. The winners of the awards were:
Trainee/Apprentice of the Year 2009, sponsored by Composites Training Consortium
– Winner : Kai Burkitt, BAE Systems
– Highly Commended: James Andrew Spencer, Gurit
Health, Safety and Environment Initiative 2009, sponsored by Composites UK
– Cray Valley
Industry Innovation of the Year 2009, sponsored by NetComposites
– Bombardier Aerospace, for their application of resin transfer infusion to large scale aerospace structures.
“With continued growth and development within the composites industry it was important that Composites UK support the achievements of individuals and companies in the sector” said Chris Little, Composites UK Chairman.
Winners received a glass trophy, £250 prize money and a framed certificate. Kai Burkitt also received a one year Technician membership to IOM3. A charity raffle was also held and money raised at the dinner was split between Parkinson’s UK, Diabetes UK and Everyman.
