UK’s EPM Technology Group, provider of composite solutions for the automotive industry, is to centralise its UK operations to reduce costs of producing composite parts.
As part of a re-alignment of EPM’s UK operations and the introduction of a long-term ‘serving customers by country and cost’ strategy, epm:technology have closed its performance facility at Ilkeston, Derby. The move means that staff and production will be relocated in the new production facilities at Coalville, a 25,000sqft facility currently housing the company’s ‘twintex’ production line, and the move of technical composites work to the Technical Centre at Draycott, UK
EPM said that the decision has been taken to “better utilise our facilities and equipment and to reduce overheads in order to pass cost savings to our customer base.”
UK operations will still be controlled from the Technical Centre at Draycott, where epm:technology provides composite engineering, prototyping and production capabilities for customers in F1, motor sport and niche vehicle production.
Epm:technology group have also acquired a sales and engineering office at Magny Cours, France, in order to cater for the increased local demands for the design and engineering of composite components to the automotive and motor sport industries. epm:technology said that it has received direct requests to support customers with the selection of composite materials and manufacturing processes so as to reduce development costs and provide more effective end-to-end composite solutions.
Graham Mulholand, the companies Managing Director said that “the decision is the first step towards achieving epm:technology’s long term goal of serving customers by country and cost in engineering, motor sport, niche vehicles and high volume production applications”. Mulholland adds that it is no coincidence that it comes at the same time as a new joint venture between epm:technology and an established organisation in India specialising in the manufacture of composite components which has been set up to serve medium to high volume production requirements utilising high skills and low costs.
