The UK Government has announced a £50 million investment in a Graphene Global Research and Technology Hub.

The HUB is being created to commercialise graphene, which the Government say will capitalise on the UK’s international leadership in the field. They say it will act as a catalyst to spawn new businesses, attract global companies and translate the value of scientific discovery into wealth and job creation for the UK.

The Conservative party describe Graphene as the thinnest and strongest material ever found, and as a revolutionary discovery. George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, said “We must do better at turning such discoveries into the products and industries of the future. That is why we are backing it with extra investment of £50million.”
