Transport and Haulage with Nidaplast 8

Nidaplast is developing new applications for Nidaplast 8 for the transport and haulage industry (utility vehicles, trucks, ambulances) and will present them at the JEC Composites Show in Paris from 29th to 31st March 2011.

Nidaplast composites are specialists in polypropylene honeycomb and have adapted Nidaplast 8 to the haulage market. “”Because of the honeycomb core, our product is 95% air which reduces vehicle weight considerably, therefore optimising resistance,”” explains Luc Nuttens, Development Engineer at Nidaplast Composites.

Honeycomb with a skin layer (in polyester, wood, aluminium) is increasingly used to replace plywood which means less weight and a heavier possible load. One panel of nidaplast with polyester skin can, as an example, save over 5kg/m compared to traditional plywood, representing over 50% of its initial weight. For rigid 13-metre trucks, this saves over 500kg per trailer. “”In this very specific sector, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have become key challenges to gain competitive edge,”” Mr Nuttens adds.

“”Nidaplast composites work with the biggest manufacturers in polyester panels for industrial bodywork. We have developed a range of products for manufacturing continuous polyester panels. For our customers, this process represents an excellent technical and financial compromise for manufacturing composite panels,”” Mr Nuttens continues.
