Japan’s Toray Industries Inc. said that it has signed a $6 billion deal to supply carbon fibre for use in Boeing Co.’s new 787 jets.

Under the agreement, the Tokyo-based materials producer will sell the material for use in the 787’s fuselage, the company said in a statement. Toray has already agreed to supply Boeing with carbon fibre for the plane’s wing and tail units in a separate agreement inked in May 2004.

The Boeing 787 is scheduled for release in 2008, and the new agreement covers a 16-year period until 2021.
