The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) is now offering an on-line short course on Metal Matrix Composites. The course is introductory in nature and provides an overview of MMCs, addressing processing, properties, and applications, with a special focus on lightweighting and aluminum.
Metal-matrix composites (MMC) are materials that are becoming increasingly important in industrial applications, such as aerospace, automotive, electronics, thermal management, and wear applications. Many physicists, aerospace engineers, mechanical engineers, design engineers, and industrial engineers are finding that their work can benefit from a thorough understanding of the processing, properties, and application opportunities for MMCs. The web-based course, Metal-Matrix Composites, provides this information in an accessible format.
The course comprises six self-contained modules consisting of audio, visual, and text teaching materials. Completion time for the entire course is approximately eight hours.
– Module 1: Introduction and Overview
– Module 2: Processing
– Module 3: Properties
– Module 4: Applications
– Module 5: References and Reading
– Module 6: Questions and Feedback
A free course preview and on-line registration are available via the TMS Document Center
