Ticona, the engineering polymers business of Celanese, will build a new Celstran long fibre-reinforced thermoplastic (LFRT) facility in Nanjing, China.

The new plant is scheduled to be operational early in 2008.

Investment in the new Celstran LFRT facility is in line with their Asia growth strategy, which also includes previously announced plans to construct a production facility for their GUR ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. The new Celstran LFRT and GUR facilities will be co-located at the Celanese integrated chemical complex in Nanjing.

“As a leading supplier of long-fibre technology, Ticona is committed to its customers as they expand into Asia,” said Frank Reuter, Ticona global product manager for Celstan LFRT. “This investment reinforces our presence in the region and will provide our global customers with consistent, high-quality products for years to come. When the new facility goes online in Nanjing, we will have an annual global LFRT production capacity of more than 35,000 tons.” At the present time, Ticona produces Celstran LFRT in Kelsterbach, Germany, and Winona, Minnesota.
