Ticona is presenting its singular matrix materials, described as having remarkable innovation potential at this weeks Composites Europe in Dusseldorf, Germany, from their stand 8b G02.
Ticona is exhibiting its endless fibre-reinforced tapes of Celstran CFR-TP composites. By mating excellent processability with stability, light weight and a sound aging behaviour, Ticona says they generate very new potentials. It explains, pipes made of these tapes, for example, are unique in that they improve the toughness and extend the life of oil and gas pipelines due to higher flexibility and corrosion resistance behaviour.
Automotive manufacturer Rinspeed is another company that Ticona says is enthralled by the unidirectional tapes as used in its electric car model “BamBoo”. Oxeon built the under-body from tapes 20 millimetres wide. Crucial factors in choosing this material were its low weight, high rigidity and stiffness as well as the ecological processing technique. These tapes also give strength to the “BamBoo’s” wheel wells supplied by Kringlan. Another major bonus of this material is its ease of processing. Any conventional die casting or injection moulding procedure is suitable, thus enabling lean and efficient manufacturing processes.
Ticona’s Fortron PPS matrix material for lightweight construction will also be on display. Ticona explains how Fortron PPS composite was chosen to make the pitch elevator and yaw rudder at the tail of business jet Gulfstream G650, which attracted enough attention to win the welded thermoplastic primary structural components the international “JEC Innovation Award 2010”. A solution that went into series production earlier this year.
