The team from FBGS together with colleagues from the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (IPHT) were awarded the Thuringian research prize for 2014 in the category “Transfer”.
The Thuringian research prize is structured in 3 categories for Fundamental Research, Applied Research, and Transfer (from research to industry). The prize was awarded to the team of engineers and scientists from FBGS and IPHT for the successful transfer of the draw-tower grating (DTG) technology to an industrial production process, resulting today in unmatched high mechanical strength fibre optic sensors. FBGS is today delivering their Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) sensing products to more than 300 customers in over 36 countries. According to the laudatory speech of Prof. Wolfgang Schade, an expert in the field of fibre optic sensing; “FBGS made a successful transition from research into industry, having today a strong influence to the fibre optic sensing market”. The award was presented by the Thuringian Minister for Economy, Science and Digital Society, Wolfgang Tiefensee, who was acknowledging the close collaboration of Thuringian research and industry resulting in a global market success for a new and an innovative technology.
