Production Glassfibre has acquired the entire share capital of W.L. Cunliffe and took operational control of the company from 10 February.

After 40 years of building the business and guarding its reputation as the one of the most respected moulders in the country, Alan Cunliffe has decided to retire from the industry. The factory at Skelmersdale employs 100+people and will continue to operate alongside the existing Production Glassfibre facilities in Bedford, Altham and Kirkcaldy. Group manufacturing floor space will now be close to16,000sqm, the headcount in excess of 300 and annual resin consumption around 1000 tonnes, all confirming the company’s position as the UK’s largest general moulder of glass fibre parts and products.

Phil Dryburgh (Chairman, Production Glassfibre) said “Alan and I have spoken off and on for several years about this possibility and I have always admired enormously his companies reputation for quality, service, innovation and integrity. I am absolutely convinced of the business fit with PGF since it not only brings extra scale in sectors and processes we are familiar with, but also adds capability such as closed moulding, and market reach such as medical devices”

Steven Grossi (Group Managing Director) said “This will be our third acquisition in six years, but certainly the most significant and I expect the most exciting! The other two companies have gone from strength to strength and I am utterly convinced that W.L. Cunliffe will do the same. In an extremely uncertain commercial environment, a business such as ours with financial stability, stable management, a skilled workforce, national spread and a clear strategy should be the safest haven for significant customers of moulded glass fibre. We now look forward to continuing our record of consistent, sustainable growth”
