TeXtreme spread tow fabrics are being used by five different teams in this year’s Formula Student competitions, with the teams being able to lose 30 kilos of weight on their composites parts over last year.

Use of carbon fabrics to lower the weight and improve performance was of great importance to the teams, which then chose the ultra light spread tow carbon fabric TeXtreme. According to Oxeon, the use of TeXtreme amongst the successful Formula 1 teams has lowered composites parts weight by about 20-30%, which functioned as a source for inspiration for the Formula Student teams.

Henrik Blycker, CEO, at Oxeon says: “We were flattered by the interest of using TeXtreme material and also impressed by the knowledge and ambitions of the teams, so we really felt that sponsoring these teams was the right thing to do”.

The Formula Student race will take part on the Silverstone circuit in the United Kingdom between the 15th and the 18th of July and Formula Student Germany will take part on the Hockenheim circuit in Germany between the 4th and the 8th of August.
