On 14th December 2012, a technical dissemination seminar of the results of FP7 colaborative project EMBROIDERY will take place in Tecnalia´s facilities in San Sebastian, Spain.

The main objective of EMBROIDERY project has been to optimise and industrialise theTailored Fibre Placement Technology (TFP) for the automated production of self-heating layers in order to offer to the composites industry a faster response and energy efficient heating system for composites manufacturing processes.

In parallel, a computer tool has been developed in order to exploit another outstanding feature of the TFP, which is the steering of the reinforcing fibre, allowing the manufacturing of ultra-light components, where fibre is, at each point, oriented according to the stress field, which means an optimum material usage.

The results of the developed technology in the following industrial fields will be presented in the seminar:

  • Composite repairs equipment.
  • Infusion reusable tooling/membrane.
  • Preforming reusable tooling/membrane.
  • Composite rigid tooling based on resistive heating.
  • Composite components with thermal functions (de-icing systems, etc.).
  • Structural optimization/Fibre steering tools (ultra-light components).
  • Tailored Fibre Placement machines.
