TenCate Advanced Composites has selected Surface Generation’s composite-processing technology as it says it is faster and more efficient in the production of fibre-reinforced composites for the company’s clients in the aerospace and industrial sectors.
By integrating Surface Generation’s patented Production to Functional Specifications (PtFS) processing technology into its capabilities, TenCate says it is able to reduce the cycle time to process composite materials to mere minutes. This step-change in performance significantly reduces the time and ultimate cost of manufacturing high-performance composites.
The companies say they will collaborate to further reduce cycle times by developing new innovative materials and processing solutions. Central to this is Surface Generation’s PtFS technology which encompasses a range of active thermal-management technologies, allowing temperatures to be dynamically controlled to the exact requirements of each mould area. By continuously adapting heating and cooling levels in real-time, quality is assured and throughput maximised.
Michael Cichon, Director of Product Marketing at TenCate Advanced Composites in Morgan Hill, California, US, comments,“Surface Generation’s cutting-edge processing technology enables us to reduce the cycle time of composites fabrication for high-volume markets, while maintaining aerospace- quality levels. Surface Generation’s commitment to solutions which lower the cost of composite processing allows us to focus on advanced composite materials and optimal process solutions aimed at achieving extremely rapid process cycle times for moulded parts.”
Ben Halford, Chief Executive at Surface Generation, comments,“Reducing cycle time for compression-moulded, reinforced composites dramatically improves economics for high-performance parts beyond existing applications. This, combined with the significant improvements PtFS offers in energy consumption and quality, allows us to significantly outperform traditional composite- and metallic-production routes.”
