Honeywell’s Spectra composite material has been selected by C&D Aerospace as the primary ballistic protection material for its new strengthened cockpit doors.
“”Spectra is the ideal material for ballistic protection in aircraft components,”” said Scott Savian, Marketing, C&D Aerospace. “”Spectra has already proven itself in bulletproof vests, tanks and combat helicopters.”” C&D Aerospace and Honeywell engineers can work together to have an approved design on the market within two to three months, Savian said.
“”C&D Aerospace is a recognized world leader in producing complete aircraft interiors, and by joining forces with Honeywell we have created the ideal team to design and produce hardened cockpit doors,”” said Frank Daly, President, Honeywell Air Transport.
Savian added, “”The superior energy-absorbing characteristics of Honeywell’s Spectra fiber material is an integral part of our solution for fortified cockpit security. Combined with C&D’s composite panel and design expertise, this new blend of technology will satisfy all existing and anticipated regulatory requirements.””
