The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) has announced the winners of its second-annual Plastics for Life global parts competition.
Winners were selected in four feature-based categories ― Protecting Life (preservation, safety, containment, protection); Quality of Life (mobility, communication, luxury/comfort, recreation, entertainment); Improving Life (education, energy, opportunity, health); and Sustaining Life (environmental, conservation, sustainability, recycling, reduction) ― as well as a new People’s Choice category and the prestigious Grand Award category for the competition’s top vote getter.
Results were announced at a press conference on March 25th, the last day of SPE’s Annual Technical Conference (ANTEC 2015), held in conjunction in 2015 with the National Plastics Exposition (NPE 2015) produced by the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) in Orlando, Florida, US.
Winners of the 2015 Plastics for Life global parts competition were:
“The pace of innovation in the plastics industry is constant and continuous,” explains Jon Ratzlaff, Technical Services Manager, Chevron Phillips Chemical Co., who created the parts competition during his term as 2013-2014 SPE president.
“With our new Plastics for Life global parts competition, SPE hopes to highlight innovative technology that has recently won awards at our various division- and section-level events and thereby inspire industry and educate consumers about just how many ways plastics can be used to benefit life on this planet. This year’s friendly competition was more than double the size it was in 2014. Fortunately we had the help of a diverse team of 20 Blue Ribbon judges drawn from the media, past SPE presidents, SPE Fellows, and other SPE members who are industry experts in their field. These judges did an outstanding job in selecting our 2015 award winners and we hope they enjoyed the experience enough to come back to judge at ANTEC 2016.”
