Silicone Composites hosted its first Open Day on Wednesday 30th January and welcomed 18 attendees to what was universally acknowledged to be a highly successful event.
Its attendees were mainly from the composite manufacturing industry but also included representatives from material suppliers interested to learn more about this technology.
The day included theoretical presentations explaining the reusable vacuum bag technology clearly and in context with the other closed-mould process options such as RTM.
Practical demonstrations included four separate moulding demonstrations ranging from the infusion of a complex structural helmet shell to the direct infusion of a 3m dinghy hull.
The company also demonstrated from start to finish the manufacturing of a complete silicone vacuum bag, with a complete process-ready bag being produced within a two hour window.
This event is part of Silicone Composites ongoing commitment to providing the technical support and training that can allow composite manufacturers to make informed decisions about process choice. Understanding the advantages and limitations of each process is vital not only to choosing the right process but also to being able to implement it into the production environment.
