Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) is engineering the new carbon fibre production plant of Toho Tenax Europe GmbH in Heinsberg-Oberbruch, North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany.

After scheduled completion in October 2006, the plant is expected to produce up to 1,700 tons of carbon fibres per year for industry projects such as Airbus’s A380. The order was preceded by successful completion of the extended basic engineering for the new production plant, awarded by Toho Tenax to Siemens in December 2003. The total value of the contract runs to €4.8 million.

Toho Tenax is one of the world’s leading vendors of carbon fibres with a current annual capacity of 5,500 tons.
