Seismic Retrofit of Telecommunications Facility

Composite Solutions Inc’s carbon overlay system is being used by a major telecommunications company for the seismic retrofit of shear walls and columns in a key switching complex.

The overlay is a carbon-fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheet which is applied like “”wallpaper”” to increase the ductility and/or strength of structural elements such as columns, beams, walls and floors. The CFRP technology, which was developed for the defense industry beginning in the 1960s, offers the advantage of affordability and ease of installation.
