Visitors to Advanced Engineering 2017 can see a Caterham Seven CSR-260 sports car with a carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof moulded using Scott Bader’s Crestapol resin.

The lightweight composite roof for the Caterham Seven was vacuum infused by Marine Concepts using Crestapol 1260 urethane acrylate resin in preference to an epoxy resin based laminate. As well as being compatible with carbon fibres, the Crestapol infusion resin was selected as it reduced the overall production time, rapidly curing at room temperature with no need for post cure. Marine Concepts was also able to lacquer or post paint the CFRP roof with no additional surface preparation work required, saving further time and cost.

The Scott Bader stand will display key products and services supplied directly and via its European network of national and regional distributor partners:

  • the full range of structural adhesives and bonding pastes including new shorter fixture time grades of Crestabond MMA primer-less structural adhesives;
  • the environmentally friendly, UV weather resistant range of Crystic Ecogel ultra low styrene iso and iso-NPG spray gelcoats for demanding applications, including the ‘zero’ styrene Ecogel S0 PA grade;
  • the company’s fire, smoke and toxic fume emission (FST) product range for manufacturing approved fire retardant FRP parts that can be used in many subterranean passenger rail, land transport, and building and construction applications; and
  • the GelTint service available from the UK and across Europe.

Scott Bader will exhibit on Stand O130 at Advanced Engineering 2017 on 1-2 November in Birmingham, UK.
