The SCIGRIP Solar Boat will be taking to the water again in the Solar1 Monte Carlo Cup 2015.
The race is to be hosted at the Yacht Club de Monaco from the 9th – 11th July and promises to generate some of the most innovative boat designs utilising lightweight composite technologies.
Following the Polish team’s victory in the Dong Energy Solar Challenge in the Netherlands last year, SCIGRIP says it is once again keen to offer support and adhesive expertise during the construction of their latest entry.
Although the exact specifications of the boat remain strictly confidential, the design team can reveal the customised craft will be capable of higher speeds than ever before. This is attributed to a number of design reconfigurations and the use of super lightweight solar panels. SCIGRIP’s methyl methacrylate (MMA) structural and engineering adhesive ranges will be used throughout the vessel to assemble key components and provide superior strength and durability.
According to SCIGRIP, the Solar1 Race is the brainchild of sustainable energy champion and yacht designer Sergei Dobroserdov and is supported by the Foundation Prince Albert II de Monaco. Teams will be competing from around the world in either Open Class or A Class categories in the open waters off Monaco harbour. The course incorporates slalom, fleet and one-on-one sprint stages and promises to be a thrilling spectacle.
