  • Wednesday, 28th May 2008
  • Reading time: about 2 minutes

SAMPE ’08 enjoyed a successful return to the west coast, with 282 total exhibiting companies and 4,750 attendees.

“”The value SAMPE has to offer any M&P professional shouldn’t be underestimated,”” SAMPE President Bob Griffiths, Consultant and Director of ERG Ltd., said. “”SAMPE attracts the most influential people in the industry. Key decision makers and key buyers. Not attending a SAMPE exhibition is a huge mistake.””

On Monday, May 19, SAMPE inducted five new SAMPE Fellows into the SAMPE Fellow Program. The 2008 honorees were:

– Dr. Klaus Drechsler, University of Stuttgart, Germany
– Dr. Clem Hiel, Composite Support and Solutions, Inc., USA
– Mr. Clark Johnson, Boeing (retired), USA
– Dr. James Leslie, ACPT Inc., USA
– Dr. Toshio Tanimoto, Shonan Institute of Technology, Japan

Two noteworthy keynote presentations were given Tuesday, by prominent members of the materials and processes industry. Takashi Ishikawa, Aviation Program Director of JAXA presented “”Introduction of Japan’s Civil Aviation Research and Development Programs and the Role of Advanced Composites Research””, which focused on several research and development programs for civil aviation being conducted in Japan. His presentation was followed by “”The Changing Times in Globalization”” by Peter Huntsman, President and CEO of Huntsman Companies. His presentation addressed the challenges and opportunities facing today’s global market.

Throughout the week, attendees had the opportunity to attend a dynamic conference, consisting of sessions, panels and tutorials, each designed with an aim to address the growing needs and changes taking place in the industry.

“”This year’s topics reflect the industry’s constant advances. Teaming up with the SAMPE Japan chapter has enabled us to address issues that are of a global concern, making this conference program truly international,”” Brent Strong, Conference General Co-Chair said.

Next year, SAMPE ’09 will return to Baltimore, Maryland. The conference dates are May 18-21, 2009 and the exhibition dates are May 19-21, 2009. The program will be held at the Baltimore Convention Center.
