Saint-Gobain has launched a new glass production line in the Czech Republic for the automotive industry.

The total investment into the Horivice plant, which bears the name Saint-Gobain Sekurit CR, will exceed 12 million euros with over 100 new jobs being created in the Czech region.

“Saint-Gobain’s new plant uses the latest technology to produce state-of-the-art automotive glass for mid- to high-end and luxury model vehicles. Smaller series production is demanding not only on machinery and technology but also on a qualified labour force. What tipped the scales in favour of the Czech Republic against other countries vying for this project was indeed the fact that the country offered the best workers who not only have the corresponding education but also the experience operating modern production equipment,” commented Jarmila Horska from CzechInvest’s Investment Incentives Section.

Saint-Gobain are benefiting from the cheaper costs of labour I the Czech Republic which follow from comments made in the French Press daily Le Monde quoted Saint-Gobain chief executive Jean-Louis Beffa as saying the average hourly wage in the Czech Republic was EUR 4, as against EUR 23 in Western Europe. The Saint-Gobain group comprises Czech units Saint-Gobain Vertex, Saint-Gobain Orsil and others.
