Rio Tinto Completes Sale of Alcan Composites

Following their announcement earlier in the year, Rio Tinto has now completed the sale of Alcan Composites to Schweiter Technologies for a fee of around US$349 million.

Alcan Composites has built its reputation on providing core materials for sandwich constructions, particularly in the wind energy industry. Its best-known brands are Airex, Alucobond Baltek, Dibond, Forex, Gator, Kapa and Sintra.

Rio Tinto is primarily a specialists in mining and the exploration of metals and minerals. The sale of Alcan Composites is part of a series of divestments in 2009, which total US$5.2 billion of agreed asset sales.
