Reichhold in Agreement to Purchase South African Resin Manufacturer

Officials at Reichhold, Inc. announced that the company has signed an agreement to acquire NCS Resins (NCS), a manufacturer of unsaturated polyester resins and gelcoats based in South Africa. It is anticipated that the effective date of the sale will be December 1, subject to meeting all of the conditions of the sale and the approval of the boards of both companies as well as the Competition authorities. Terms of the acquisition were not released. “Pursuing the purchase of NCS is simply one more example of our global commitment to the polyester resin industry,” commented Yoshi Kawashima, Chairman and CEO, Reichhold, Inc. “The acquisition of NCS will provide us with key manufacturing capabilities on the African continent, and afford existing NCS customers with access to expanded, leading technology from Reichhold.” NCS Resins has held technology-licensing agreements with Reichhold for a number of years. With annual revenues of approximately $25 million (USD), NCS is Africa’s largest manufacturer of unsaturated polyester resins (UPR), which are used in the manufacture of fiberglass products such as roof sheeting, bakkie canopies, boats, tanks and piping, and gelcoats.
