The RCF Group plan to launch a new company, Green Carbon Fibre Ltd, at JEC 2010.
The new company has developed a range of 100% recycled carbon fibre products in forms that are readily usable for a number of industrial applications. These include milled and chopped carbon, as well as carbon fibre pellets for use in thermoplastic applications. All of the products are produced from carbon fibre recovered by its sister company Recycled Carbon Fibre Ltd, who will continue to focus on the recycling of carbon fibre waste from the composite industry, taking processing scrap, off-cuts, moulds and end-of-life components.
The RCF Group operates a commercial scale continuous carbon fibre recycling plant from its site at Coseley in the W.Midlands, UK. The site is licensed by the UK Environmental Agency and RCF say that it has the capacity to process 2000 metric tonnes of scrap waste carbon fibre composite each year. The Group’s goal is to help businesses avoid the unnecessary cost of disposing of their manufacturing scrap waste and end-of-life carbon fibre composites to landfill or incineration.
The Group’s second plant is to be based in the US and plans are well advanced for it to be operational in 2010/11. In the meantime, feedstock materials will be collected in the US and processed at the UK facility.
