Interplastic, CCP and Dow have all announced price increase for their product in North America.

A $0.05 per pound price increase for gel coat and unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) products will be introduced by Cook Composites and Polymers on product shipments made on or after July 31, 2006.

According to CCP’s Vice President for Composites, Paul Colonna, “Additional significant increases in costs of raw materials (specifically phthalic, isophthalic, styrene, glycols, and DCPD) combined with ongoing increases in service-related costs such as transportation have made the need for another adjustment unavoidable.”

“Having said that,” Colonna continued, “we realize that this is a difficult environment for our customers, and are continuing to actively examine every possible aspect of our business in an attempt to minimize both the size and frequency of these changes.”

Interplastic Corporation’s Thermoset Resins Division is raising the price of CoREZYN and Silmar brand products $0.05 per pound for shipments on or after July 22, 2006. This includes all vinyl ester, polyester, specialty resins, gel coats, colorants, and putties.

“The recent sharp increase in crude oil to $75 per barrel has driven up the cost of all polyester raw materials. Styrene and phthalic anhydride have increased for three successive months, with key glycols and isophthalic acid moving up two months in a row. Other additive materials have also increased during this time,” explained Steve Wetzel, National Sales Manager. “This does not appear to be a short term shift and the higher costs cannot be absorbed by polyester manufacturers,” Wetzel continued..

Dow Epoxy is raising list and off-list prices for D.E.R. liquid, liquid blends, solid, solid solution and brominated epoxy resins by $0.06 per pound in North America. Prices for D.E.N.™ epoxy novolac resins and D.E.H.™ epoxy curing agents will also rise by $0.06 per pound, all effective from August 1, 2006. The increases are in addition to their previous epoxy resin price increases in North America that became effective on July 1, 2006.
