PPG Fiber Glass has sold its 50 percent interest in the PPG Devold fibre glass joint venture to Hexagon Devold, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hexagon Composites.
The 50-50 joint venture was created in 2007 to manufacture glass fibre reinforcement fabrics for use in turbine blades for wind energy. PPG will continue to manufacture fibre glass material for the wind energy industry, and Hexagon Devold will continue to manufacture multiaxial and unidirectional reinforcement fabrics at PPG’s Shelby, North Carolina, US, fibre glass facility.
“PPG is a key supplier to many independent weavers and fabric manufacturers for wind turbines, including Hexagon Devold, and we look forward to continuing that relationship with them,” said Kevin McDonald, PPG general manager, U.S., Canada and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) fibre glass reinforcement.
