Airbus Helicopters and Porcher Industries will showcase the latest structural component on the H160; Airbus Helicopters’ new cutting-edge composite helicopter and the new benchmark aircraft of its class.
According to Airbus, the H160 is the first civil helicopter with a composite structure making it lighter, more robust, more resistant to corrosion and fatigue, and with significantly reduced maintenance needs.
Porcher Industries has partnered with Airbus Helicopters to develop a new carbon/PEEK reinforced solution for optimised weight-saving and damage tolerance (versus other metals or composites made of thermoset resin).
Porcher Industries says the high performance prepreg material was developed using a PEEK resin, and required special reinforcement processing and high temperature impregnation expertise. This project has allowed Airbus Helicopters to master the processing and production of a CFRP composite part that delivers exceptional performance.
With the development of this solution in partnership with Airbus Helicopters, Porcher Industries says this confirms its leading technological position for high performance thermoplastic composites in the aerospace market.
