Owens Corning has introduced a new interactive digital Division 22/23 Mechanical Manufacturer’s Guide eBook designed to make it convenient for mechanical engineers and building specifiers to access key product information while on job sites or at the office.
Owens Corning says that with the launch of this mobile application, professionals in the commercial building industry have quick and easy access to duct, pipe and HVAC equipment insulation solutions, product data sheets, CSI MasterFormat three-part system specifications and green building program guides. The new eBook is available online at http://division2233.owenscorning.com and can also be downloaded through Apple and Android app stores.

The digital catalog can be browsed from anywhere and is designed to create a differentiated solution to access the latest information about Owens Corning products. This catalogue also has user-friendly features including the ability to add notes that can be saved for future reference, shared with friends, colleagues or bookmarked for a later date.
In further news, Owens Corning has a new furnace in its Tlaxcala, Mexico, glass reinforcements facility that is now operational. This is the latest step the company has taken to increase its global capacity to produce composite material.
“Last year we announced the decision to increase production capacity in our Tlaxcala facility to support the growing needs of our customers and the steady increase in global demand,” said Marcio Sandri, Vice President and Managing Director for the company’s global glass reinforcements business. “This is aligned with our business strategy to reposition our assets to reduce manufacturing cost in order to continue to provide high quality products to our customers with the most efficient and effective business model.”
“This investment enables us to further leverage our global presence and flexible supply chain to deliver quality product when and where our customers need it,” said Sandri. “We are excited to have the expansion of our Tlaxcala facility now operational, and supporting our current and future customers.”
Owens Corning is also opening a China Composites Center in Shanghai, China, in early 2012.
“Our new China Composites Center in Shanghai demonstrates our commitment to provide customers locally with customized solutions,” said Owens Corning Vice President of Innovations for the Composite Solutions Business, Dr. Ashish Diwanji. “We will partner with our customers in the region to grow the use of composites materials in existing and new applications.”
This center will have a staff of scientists and engineers using state-of-the-art facilities to focus on customer activities including composite prototyping, materials testing, designing with composites, technical support and developing new solutions, particularly in applications for renewable energy, residential and commercial building and vehicle components.
Owens Corning explains that the team will be part of an integrated global network of scientists and engineers connected to the company’s innovation sites around the world in Granville, US; Chambery, France; Zele, Belgium; Apeldoorn, Netherlands; and Ibaraki, Japan. Having a facility in Shanghai ensures deep understanding of local needs and trends. The team is also expected to partner with local universities and institutes specialising in material science, chemistry, characterisation and processing.
