Owens Corning and Saint-Gobain are planning to form a joint venture to construct a state-of-the-art, innovative manufacturing facility to deliver high-quality glass fiber reinforcements to the growing composites marketplace.

The 50/50 joint venture will produce reinforcements to be sold in equal shares through Saint-Gobain Vetrotex and Owens Corning international sales networks. Production and delivery of product is planned for late 2004.

“The broad-based technology and global manufacturing expertise that our two companies bring to this joint venture means the delivery of the highest quality glass reinforcement products to our customers,” said both Dick Lantz, President, Owens Corning Composite Solutions; and Roberto Caliari, President, Branche Reinforcement, Saint Gobain.

Lantz stated that this innovative joint venture reinforces the message that the composites industry, currently growing at 4-5% per year, must continue in its quest to provide composite solutions that replace the use of the traditional materials of wood, aluminum and steel. He emphasized that Owens Corning is committed to meet its customers’ growing needs with this innovative manufacturing partnership, as well as with continued improvements at the company’s existing global facilities.

Further details on the joint manufacturing venture are not available at this time. The parties plan to announce more specific details in the coming weeks.
