The UK Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) is helping UK automotive companies prepare for new business success in Russia, thanks to a trade mission organised in partnership with UK Trade and Industry.
Twenty five delegates from 17 companies, including representatives of vehicle designers and manufacturers, component and aftermarket suppliers, will visit the British Embassy in Moscow from 16 to 18 March. After a mission briefing on 16 March, delegates will then have the chance to follow-up contacts made with suppliers.
On 18 March, HM Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Anthony Brenton CMG, will host a mini trade show at the Embassy, promoting the UK automotive industry. Following an address by Mr Brenton and series of presentations, delegates will be showcasing their products and services to visitors. Up to 100 Russian industry executives, including representatives of Lada and Severstal, are expected to attend.
SMMT’s latest international mission is the third stage of a strategy to develop commercial opportunities for the UK motor industry in Russia. A report looking at the market potential was published last year, shortly followed by a visit by Russian representatives to meet UK suppliers. This week’s delegation takes UK companies to Russia for the first time in a process that could lead to a significant presence at the Moscow International Motor Show in August 2005.
Leading the mission, SMMT international manager, Russell Murty, commented, ‘There are some great opportunities for UK suppliers in this potentially huge market. Our job is to bridge the divide between potential and success, bringing tangible leads to UK companies through face-to-face contact. We expect this event to bring significant business to those involved.’
