Novel Non-halogenated Flame Retardant Polyester Developed in Surefire Project

A new fire retardant unsaturated polyester resin system capable of UL94 classification V0 has been developed through a UK research project.

The novel approach used to achieve this innovative class of material does not include halogenated compounds, but instead combines state of the art nano-scale particles with existing know-how to achieve a completely new class of material.

This new material has been specifically developed through a collaborative project led by NetComposites for use in industrial applications where fire retardancy is paramount, such as the mass transport, off-shore and infrastructure sectors.

Currently we have the opportunity to introduce and involve key industrial UK companies to this technology enabling them to realise the potential that this novel system can offer. These companies will be kept abreast of the project results and have the opportunity to develop the technology to specifically suit their own products and requirements.
