The Russian new-generation combat helicopter, Mi-28N, will be ready for official trials at the end of 2000. This was stated here at the Wednesday press conference called by the management of the Moscow Helicopter Plant. It was also told that the Russian Defence Ministry would recommend this new machine for use in the Russian Armed Forces. This new-generation attack helicopter can be used round-the-clock at low and extremely low altitudes. Its weapon systems are able to knock out any target. High level of the machine’s survivability is guaranteed by its fully armoured cabin, strong propeller blades made of composite materials, specially explosion protected fuel tanks, etc. The Rostvertol Plant in Rostov-on-Don has all but completed preparations to build Mi-28N helicopters. The first quantity-produced machine will come off the plant’s conveyer line in mid-2001.
