The City of Montgomery, the City of Tallassee and GKN Westland Aerospace jointly announced the opening of a new 140-job assembly facility in Montgomery, located off I-85 and U.S. Hwy. 80 in Antioch Plains Industrial Park. “Over the past year, GKN has undertaken an aggressive evaluation of the capacity and skills of each of its aerospace facilities worldwide. With an eye towards better use of assets and profit margin improvements, several moves have been made to consolidate and refocus,” said Jana Smith, Vice President of Programs. “GKN decided to close its Avonmouth facility near Bristol, United Kingdom. Approximately two-thirds of the work done there will be transferred to Alabama, representing about $20 million in annual revenue. We decided to rely on the Montgomery facility to help us with this new work.” Tallassee will continue as an established world-class fabricator of complex aircraft composites. GKN Westland Aerospace is a division of GKN plc, London, a global industrial company with sales in excess of $7.4 billion. GKN operates in more than 40 countries around the world, employing some 42,500 people in its subsidiaries and an additional 16,500 in joint ventures.
