NetComposites has expanded its consultancy offering, increasing its material testing and characterisation capabilities, following the installation of new equipment at its Development Centre in the UK.
The new equipment includes; a Heat Distortion Testing machine, a Dynamic Mechanical Analyser, and a Differential Scanning Calorimeter. This equipment shows NetComposites the physical properties of materials versus temperature.
The Heat Distortion Testing machine measures both heat deflection temperature and Vicat softening temperature, a measure of a polymer’s ability to bear a given load at elevated temperatures. The machine is capable of measuring samples in accordance with the following standards:
Dynamic Mechanical Analyser is a technique which studies and characterise materials and is most useful in the study of viscoelastic properties of polymers, as well as measuring modulus and damping. The temperature or frequency of a sample can be varied, leading to changes in the modulus and this approach can be used to locate the glass transition temperature of a material, as well as to identify transitions corresponding to other molecular motions.
Differential Scanning Calorimeter is a thermal analysis technique used to study phase transitions, for example melting and crystallisation. By measuring the difference in heat flow between a sample and a reference the machine is able to calculate the amount of energy absorbed or released during such a transition. For thermoset composite materials, a Differential Scanning Calorimete is typically used to study polymer curing.
As well as testing and analysis, NetComposites continues to offer the following services.
NetComposites will be exhibiting at JEC Europe, Porte de Versailles, Paris, France, 11th – 13th March, 2014, and can be found in Hall 7.2, Stand E6.
