EU Funded project, NCC-Foam, is presenting a demonstrator at SMM, the leading international maritime trade fair, in Hamburg, Germany, taking place 6th – 9th September.
The project has developed a new lightweight bio-composite sandwich material with a structural foam core of self-assembled nano-crystalline cellulose. It can be a sustainable alternative to fossil based sandwich materials.
Project partner, Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG), is the project’s maritime industry end-user. It’s role in the project is to analyse the future application potential in commercial shipbuilding and to define case study applications and their specific performance criteria. The main motivation for the application in shipbuilding will be weight saving.
At SMM, FSG will present a demonstrator that combines structural and interior application by substituting a part of the superstructure steel construction and the interior wall and ceiling system by composite panels. The demonstrator gives an overview of potential maritime applications and showcases the performance, appearance and finished quality of the innovative material in the final application.
To view the demonstrator, please visit FSG at SMM in booth B7.FG.3 between hall 5 and 7.
