European carbon nanotubes specialist Nanocyl has extended its presence to the North American market with a sales office based in Boston, Massachussets, the result of a partnership between Nanocyl and the specialty polymers company Vantage Resin Systems.
Because of the importance of the North American market for the commercialisation of carbon nanotubes, European carbon nanotubes specialist Nanocyl opened a Boston-based US sales office earlier this year. In order to make this happen, Nanocyl signed a collaboration agreement with Vantage Resin Systems, a specialty polymers company led by Mr Andrew Rich.
The first target end-use for their NC7000 carbon nanotubes is to impart electrical conductivity to thermoplastics. The key responsibilities of Mr Rich and Vantage Resin Systems are to grow Nanocyl’s US business by working closely with US-based companies in the key end-user markets such as automotive, industrial, semicon, aerospace, sports equipment and refining industries.
Andy Rich and Vantage Resin Systems will also make a strong push into the area of composites where carbon nanotubes potentially can act as mechanical reinforcement. The unique properties of carbon nanotubes will also open the door to other applications – such as long-life batteries and mobile fuel cells – where research is rapidly moving to commercially viable products.
“The opening of a US office is crucial for the further development of Nanocyl as a worldwide player in the commercialisation of carbon nanotubes”, says Mr Francis Massin, Managing Director of Nanocyl. “We strongly believe that there is a large market opportunity for Nanocyl in the US and that Andy Rich and Vantage Resin Systems are the right partner to not only seize these market opportunities for Nanocyl, but also to ensure our long-term market development in the US.”
Nanocyl, founded in February 2002 and supported by individual and institutional investors, was conceived to supply specialty carbon nanotubes and nanotube-based products. Currently, pilot production is dedicated to associated laboratories and selected industrial partners, but Nanocyl is investing in production equipment, laboratories and process development at its facility in order to supply commercial quantities of carbon nanotubes.
