The UK Government Motorsport Unit (GMU) is funding a pioneering venture – ‘Motorsport to Aerospace’ – between UK motorsport companies and the aerospace sector.
This exciting programme is being rolled out by the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA), with support from the Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC). The initiative will provide ‘Motorsport Valley’ with access to a new and very valuable business stream.
The first evidence of this landmark scheme is a ‘Motorsport Valley Pavilion’ at the 2004 Farnborough International Air Show (July 19-25). This prominent stand will allow motorsport firms to present their products and services to key aerospace buyers – the first time that non-aerospace businesses have ever been able to exhibit at this world-renowned show.
Future elements of the ‘Motorsport to Aerospace’ project include practical workshops, provision of consultancy support services and a trade mission to the Paris Air Show in June 2005. This extensive programme ensures that ‘Motorsport Valley’ companies will be in pole position to supply the lucrative aerospace industry.
The campaign to encourage technology transfer between these two leading UK sectors was conceived by the MIA and launched in November 2002, by Lord Sainsbury of Turville, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Science and Innovation, who commented, “”In this country we have to compete on the basis of our skills, knowledge and creativity, which is why this project is so important.
“”We are seeking to create the best possible environment for innovation, helping both of these leading industries to consolidate their position as key players in the competitive global market.””
