Matrix Composites has been awarded a contract from Materials Sciences Corporation (MSC) to produce carbon fibre reinforced composite Hardback assemblies for the US Army’s Reduced Weight Missile Launcher (RWML) Program.

The project was awarded to Matrix to continue the US Army’s Armed Scout Helicopter (ASH) and Joint Attack Munition Systems (JAMS) Project Offices goals for reduced weight, low cost and long life assemblies for the Kiowa Helicopter. Production of the Hardback assemblies will be performed in Matrix’s Rockledge, Florida, US, manufacturing plant and is expected to be complete by 2014.

Matrix says that MSC chose to partner with it for its cost competitiveness, full service capabilities and twenty-year heritage in the military and aerospace sectors. “This partnership will help us fully deliver on our strategy by giving us added composite manufacturing expertise and strong production capabilities,” said MSC Projects Manager, Rich Foedinger. “Matrix Composites is the perfect partner to help us fully realise the US Army’s production goals.”

Matrix’s Vice President, Ken Swarner, said, “We take pride in producing dependable products that support our military in combat operations. The lightweight composite Hardbacks for the RWML Program provide an enhanced capability to the US military and demonstrates our commitment to improving our force’s effectiveness.”
