Material Sciences Corporation announced that its results for the first quarter ending May 31, 2000 will fall below results in the same quarter last year. The company expects earnings for the first quarter of the current fiscal year to be approximately 18 cents per diluted share compared with 27 cents per diluted share in the prior year. MSC also announced that its Quiet Steel(R) composite material, which is designed to reduce noise and vibration, has been selected by Western Digital Corporation, one of the world’s leading disk drive manufacturers, as the top-cover material for disk drives produced for both personal computer applications and the emerging TV set-top-box recording market. MSC’s material will be used on both Western Digital’s Caviar(TM) and Protege(TM) models. Material Sciences Corporation is a technology-based manufacturer of continuously processed coated and specialty engineered materials and services.
