L&L Products has introduced A-K540 to meet the strong demand from customers for a fast-curing structural adhesive capable of providing direct robust adhesion to low surface energy plastics.
Part of its L&L Bond A-K Series of room temperature cure structural adhesives, A-K540 is considered to be unique in that it is able to combine direct adhesion – without primer, plasma, corona or flame treatments – to substrates such as polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) with very fast cure speeds at room temperature.
According to L&L, A-K540 is also capable of bonding a multitude of other substrates, thereby enabling polyolefin plastics to be combined with metals, composites and wood. It also offers high tensile strength and excellent impact resistance.
A-K540 is expected to be of particular interest to the automotive industry in general and specifically commercial vehicle manufacturers and coach builders. Typical applications in this area include structural bonding of PP interior trim (including dashboards, door panels and centre consoles), structural assembly of talc filled PP / TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) bumper modules, and structural modules incorporating glass mat thermoplastics (GMT) or long glass fibre polypropylene (LGFPP).
A-K540 is easy to use and is available in 50 ml or 400 ml cartridges ( 0.1 and 0.85 US pints), 19 litre pails (5 US gal.) or 190 litre drums (50 US gal.).
Further to this, L&L Products has introduced a range of room temperature curing, high performance epoxy adhesives for aircraft interior applications that meet the latest FAA fire regulations (vertical burn, smoke density and toxicity). It explains that other key attributes of the new range are a wide temperature range in terms of application and in-service conditions and the ability to bond dissimilar materials.
Typical applications include bonding inserts to honeycomb panels, panel to panel bonding, composite potting and fillet joints.
Gel times are 5-90 minutes, depending on the material used. All of L&L’s two component, FST adhesives have been developed to be REACH compliant. They are available in two different open time versions: short (12 to 20 min.) for immediate bonding and long (90 to 120 min.) for larger parts. The mix ratio is 1:1 or 2:1 enabling the use of standard applicator guns or pumps. They can be supplied in 200 ml (0.42 US pints) twin-barrel cartridges, 20 liter (5.3 US gal.) pails or 200 liter (53 US gal.) drums.
These products, together with other novel adhesive, structural and acoustic solutions, will be demonstrated on the L&L Products exhibition stand Hall 6, Stand H72.
