JEC Group rewarded Kineco and other five companies during the JEC Composites Asia Show for their innovative developments.
Kineco won the JEC Innovation award for ‘Filament wound composite undercarriage water tank’ developed in a joint project with Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay, Advanced Composites Program (TIFAC, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India) and Research, Designs & Standards Organization (Ministry of Railways, Government of India).
Mr. Ravi Shrivastava, General Manager (Mktg & Projects) from Kineco received the award on behalf of Kineco and project partners during the opening ceremony of JEC Asia show hosted in October, 2008 at Suntec Exhibition Centre, Singapore.
In air-conditioned coaches of passenger trains, the AC unit is roof-mounted and there is no space available for overhead water tanks. Kineco developed an innovative filament-wound composite undercarriage water tank. This non-corrosive, composite tank was designed in a single piece with semi-ellipsoidal dish ends and produced using a 4-axis CNC filament winding process which prevents leaks in operation. Compared to existing metal tanks, a 120 kg weight saving per coach was achieved, facilitating reduction in overall coach tare weight and easy handling during installation. The undercarriage tank is provided with a protective shield to take care of ballast hits and there is no need to remove the complete tank for repair.
