Nikkiso Co has received an order to make thrust reverser cascades for Airbus SAS’ next-generation A380 jumbo passenger aircraft.
Nikkiso will develop and manufacture the CFRP (carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic) components at a plant in Shizuoka Prefecture. The contract size and delivery details have not been disclosed. The firm in April began shipping cascades for Airbus’ latest aircraft, the A340-500/600. Nikkiso also supplies composite parts to Boeing Co. and Brazil’s Embraer-Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica SA. In fiscal 2001, the company’s composite parts division sales rose 30 per cent on the year to about 3.5 billion yen (US$27.23 million). (Nikkei)
It has also been announced that the internal structure of the wings of the new Airbus A380 super-jumbo will be made, for the first time, entirely of carbon fibre.
