  • Reading time: about 2 minutes

The deadlines to apply for three named scholarships at IYRS for school programs beginning this spring have been extended to a first-priority deadline of January 6 and a final deadline of February 15.

The school’s six-month programs in Composites Technology and Marine Systems begin on March 7, 2013.

Selection for the three named scholarships is based on merit and financial need. These awards include:

  • The Van Beuren Charitable Trust Scholarship; $5,000 to be awarded to a student who is a Rhode Island resident.
  • The Marine Trades Scholarship for Women: $5,000 to be awarded to a female student pursuing an education in the marine trades. Special consideration is given to women entering the field or changing careers who have shown interest in the marine trades through professional or personal pursuits.
  • The Composite Technology Scholarship: $5,000 to be awarded to a student attending the Composite Technology program.

Potential students can visit the Admissions page at to find a scholarship application in the Financial Aid section of the website.

IYRS general scholarships are also available and are based solely on need. These awards are granted in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.

IYRS is also approved to certify educational benefits for eligible veterans, including the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill (Chapter 33), the Montgomery G.I. Bill (Chapter 30) and Veterans’ Vocational Rehabilitation Programs (Chapter 31).
