350 people participated in the International Composites Seminar last week in São Paulo, Brazil; an event organised by the Latin American Composite Materials Association (ALMACO), in partnership with JEC Group.

Divided into three main themes – construction, transportation and wind power, the lectures were attended by professionals from 150 companies who produce and consume composite materials, as well as representatives of various companies and government agencies.

“It was the first event of the Brazilian composites industry that brought together such a diverse and broad audience, with special mention to the massive participation of end users,” said Gilmar Lima, President of ALMACO. He also highlights the high level of the works and the variety of topics presented. “In addition to the lectures of Brazilian and international experts in composites, we could check out the presentations of frontline professionals in the automotive, architecture, aviation, energy and investment segments.”

Students from SENAI Mário Amato school in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo, Brazil, also participated in the seminar. They attended an inaugural lecture on composite materials presented by Waldomiro Moreira, Director of Global Composites and professor of the post-graduate course in composites at Universidade Positivo.

In parallel with the Seminar, there was also an exhibition of dozens of products made entirely or partially of composites – an action called “Art Gallery” – and the award ceremony of the Composites Industry Top of Mind, the main award of the industry. Organised by ALMACO since 2010, included 24 categories in this year’s edition.

“The seminar exceeded our expectations. It was a multi-facette event where participants could get the most of all programs. During the vivid conferences, academics and industrialists expressed their concerns and solutions about materials, processes and markets. Each day was devoted to one sector (transportation, construction and energy) and coupled with busy networking sessions. The ‘Art Gallery’ with impressive products and the Top of Mind Celebration offered convincing examples of what Brazil and more generally Latina America can best produce. Congratulations to ALMACO and to its President Gilmar Lima, who was leading the way and to all participants for their awesome motivation,” said Frédérique Mutel, president and CEO of JEC Group.
